Food Allergen Recalls Statistics: Reported Quantities and Distribution

FDA allergen recall statistics covering reported quantities, allergen types, products, states, and distribution records from 2025 and 2026.

Food allergen recalls vary enormously in reported scale. FDA records in this review range from 24 chocolate bars and 20 seasoning units to 960,000 candy units, 259,582 pounds of peanuts, and 58,405 cases of macaroni and cheese. The records are U.S. Food and Drug Administration enforcement reports returned by the openFDA Food Enforcement Reports allergen query, retrieved September 30, 2026.

This is descriptive recall data, not consumer or medical advice. FDA publishes quantities in the units reported by each record; cases, packages, pounds, bags, boxes, jars, pints, and other measures are not converted or added together. Report dates are the measurement period, and the feed can be revised.

How to read these statistics

The figures below describe individual FDA recall records, rather than a single standardized total. A pound measurement is not directly comparable with a case or a package, and a case may contain a different number of units depending on the product. Some records cover imported ingredients, bulk food, or products intended for further processing. Distribution language also differs: a product may be listed in one state, several states, nationwide, or across a stated number of consignees.

The date attached to each statistic is the FDA report date. For example, the records below include reports from February through September 2026 and comparison records from September 2025. The source label for these records is Food Enforcement Reports | openFDA.

2026 recall quantities

The 2026 records show why reported quantities should be read product by product. On September 16, L-Nutra recalled 8,529 jars of Prolon Everyday Apulian Almond & Cocoa Spread for undeclared hazelnut, cashew, and pistachio. On September 9, Savor Seasonings recalled 10,961 pounds of Organic Cheddar Type Seasoning after testing found undeclared milk. On September 2, Jaime’s Foods ATX recalled 102 cases of Jalapeno Ranch for an undeclared egg allergen.

The August records span both large case counts and small unit counts:

  • On August 12, Kerry recalled 6,970 cases of KC Everyday Mac & Cheese for undeclared egg.
  • On the same date, Eunha Fisheries recalled 445 units of Flounder Sashimi with Sauce and 1,470 units of Sliced Korean Halibut with sauce for undeclared wheat, soy, and sesame among the listed label allergens.
  • Pack’n Fresh recalled 109,600 Hondashi seasoning units because fish was missing from the contains statement.
  • JINA F&C recalled 4,153 units of Wangshin Doenjang aged soybean paste because anchovy, a fish allergen, was omitted from the contains statement.

Later summer records included 29,850 Kimchi & Tofu Kimbap units recalled by GELLERT GLOBAL GROUP on July 29 for undeclared fish. On July 22, Chocolate Bar Holdings recalled 24 Winfield’s CWB Chocolate Bar units for undeclared milk. On July 15, Adams Extract & Spice recalled 120 units of Smoked Sausage Spice and 81 units of EC Hot Links Seasoning, both for undeclared sesame.

These records are not a ranked estimate of all recalled food. They are examples of reported quantities in FDA records, and their different measurement units should remain separate.

Reach across states and consignees

The distribution field adds context to quantity. Specialty Bakers recalled 449 cases of Vanilla Dessert Shells on July 15, 2026, with distribution in Pennsylvania, for undeclared soy. On the same date, Adams Extract & Spice recalled 32 units of Coopers BBQ 60 Gal Bean Mix and 20 units of JB Chicken Sknls, both distributed in Texas, for undeclared sesame.

Some records identify a single state while others name a multi-state footprint. Boichik Bagels recalled 426 packages of six-bagel Pumpernickel Mix for undeclared sesame in California on July 1. The company also recalled 167 Whitefish Salad containers in California because eggs were omitted from the contains statement.

George J Howe reported several sunflower-seed recalls on July 1, all involving undeclared cashew and distribution across 25 listed states:

Product recordReported quantityDate and distribution
6/11-ounce No Salt Sunflower Seeds578.50 casesJuly 1, 2026; 25 states
25-pound Sunflower Seeds C/S2 casesJuly 1, 2026; 25 states
5-pound Sunflower Seeds C/S19 casesJuly 1, 2026; 25 states
8/9.5-ounce Tub Nut Sunflower Seed8 casesJuly 1, 2026; 25 states

The same date’s records also list 7 cases of 5-pound Sunflower Seeds C/NS and 1,797.67 cases of salted 6/11-ounce Sunflower Seeds, both for undeclared cashew across the same 25-state distribution. Decimal case counts are preserved as published by FDA.

Bulk, packaged, and ready-to-eat products

The 2026 records cover ingredients and bulk products as well as packaged foods sold ready to eat. Wilco Peanut Co recalled 259,582 pounds of raw shelled peanuts on June 10 for an undeclared tree-nut allergen. The record describes domestic distribution and two vessels bound for Korea. That pound figure should not be treated as equivalent to a count of consumer packages.

Packaged and prepared products appear in several forms. Nutrisystem recalled 5,184 two-ounce Chocolate Cheesecake units on June 24 for undeclared soy across 26 listed states. Kettle Cuisine recalled 562 cases, equal to 4,496 24-ounce soup units, on June 17 for undeclared shrimp across 19 listed states. BEF Foods recalled 58,405 cases of Park St. Deli Macaroni & Cheese for undeclared soy lecithin in a nationwide distribution.

Other ready-to-eat or retail records include 300 Taro Cakes units recalled by E & S Grocery & Bakery for undeclared egg across eight states, and 289 9.5-ounce Vegan Kale Caesar Salad units recalled by Market of Choice for undeclared sesame in Oregon. Wawa recalled four beverage products on June 3 across Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia:

  • 616 16-ounce Diet Iced Tea Lemon pints for undeclared milk;
  • 374 16-ounce Diet Lemonade pints for undeclared milk;
  • 15,510 16-ounce Iced Tea Lemon pints for undeclared milk; and
  • 1,694 16-ounce Fruit Punch pints for undeclared milk.

Fly By Jing recalled 3,419 cases of Creamy Sesame Noodles for possible peanut cross-contamination in a nationwide distribution. These records illustrate that the recall reason can involve an omitted allergen statement or possible cross-contamination, while the product format ranges from a beverage pint to a multi-case prepared food.

Allergen types and recalled products

The records identify a broad set of allergens and label problems. Fish appears in the Ocinet recall of 199,750 kimchi units across three package sizes on May 20, 2026. Fish was also the issue in the GELLERT GLOBAL GROUP kimbap recall and in the missing anchovy statement for JINA F&C’s aged soybean paste. Shrimp was the undeclared allergen in Kettle Cuisine soup, while possible peanut cross-contamination was cited for Fly By Jing noodles.

Tree nuts and peanuts appear in several distinct product categories. French Broad Chocolate recalled 34 two-and-a-half-ounce, 400 five-ounce, and 53 ten-ounce boxes for an undeclared walnut allergen on May 13. Schreiber Foods recalled 940 cases of Einstein Bros Bagels Honey Almond Double-Whipped Shmear for undeclared almond across four states on May 6. Nuts.com recalled 10,190 pounds of Espresso Malted Milk Balls for undeclared wheat and soy on April 1.

Milk, egg, wheat, soy, and sesame also recur across the records. Kradjian Importing recalled 4,400 pounds of Jordanian Zaatar spice mix for undeclared sesame and wheat on March 25. Frito-Lay recalled 5,292 bags of Miss Vickie’s Spicy Dill Pickle for undeclared milk across six states. Asukar Foods recalled 259 Cherry Milkshake popsicles for undeclared soy lecithin in Florida.

One record concerns both an allergen and an additional labeling issue: Bader Enterprises recalled 60 pounds of Premium Food Jordan Almonds for undeclared wheat and unlisted color additives in New Jersey and New York. Disaronno Ingredients recalled 15 boxes plus 6 bags of Montebianco vegan base after milk exceeded acceptable levels despite a may-contain statement. The mixed quantity is preserved rather than converted.

Case-level and distribution-specific records

Case counts can describe very different distribution footprints. On March 4, 2026, Koi Koi Trading recalled three frozen Fish Ball pack formats for undeclared wheat and sesame across 50 consignees in eight states:

  • 344 cases of 40-piece packs;
  • 8,232 cases of 4-piece packs; and
  • 3,884 cases of 20-piece packs.

The case totals are reported separately because the pack sizes differ. Reser’s Fine Foods recalled 149 cases, or 298 tubs, of mislabeled tuna salad for an undeclared fish allergen on February 25. The FDA record supplies both measures, but they describe the same recall entry rather than two independent quantities.

The Koi Koi and Reser’s records show why a distribution qualifier matters. A case count alone does not identify how many states, consignees, or product formats were involved. In the Koi Koi record, the same allergen reason and distribution footprint apply to three package formats with different case quantities.

2025 comparison records

The supplied 2025 records provide a limited comparison point, not a complete year total. On September 17, 2025, Anderson Candy Company recalled 960,000 Peanut Rounds units for undeclared soy across 11 states. That reported unit count is much larger than several individual 2026 records, but it uses a different product and measurement context.

On September 10, The Candy Barn reported 665 packages for each of several products: Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Peanut Brittle for missing peanut and milk allergens; Chocolate Fudge because egg was absent from the contains statement; Maple Nut Fudge because pecan and egg were absent; English Toffee because pecans were absent; Peanut Butter Fudge because egg was absent; and Chocolate Walnut Fudge because walnut and egg were absent.

Dollins Pecan recalled 468 cases of HEB Blueberry Flavored Yogurt Pretzels for undeclared wheat in Texas on September 10, 2025. The six The Candy Barn records and the Dollins Pecan record share a report date, but each remains a separate product-level record.

These 2025 entries should not be used to calculate a year-over-year total from the 2026 examples. The available records use different products, units, distribution descriptions, and reporting dates. They are best read as documented FDA recall observations, with the original quantities, dates, allergen descriptions, and geographic qualifiers intact.
